It’s back again this year! The Pork Quality Competition is the event that celebrates excellence in pork production by recognizing “best of the best.” Here hog producers from across Canada come together to compete in what has become the largest hog carcass competition in North America – and possibly the world.
A highlight of the Hog & Poultry Days show, producers compete for the title of Grand Champion and a major cash prize. At the last competition, the prize money totaled $55,000. The First Place Grand Champion Carcass was awarded $12,000; the Reserve Champion $10,000; and the third place winner received $8,000. As well, the top 10 winners donated $53,500 of their prize winnings to charity.
Since 1996, Manitoba hog producers and sponsors of the competition have donated well over $250,000 to rural and urban charities and over 70,000 pounds of some of the world’s finest quality pork to help feed Manitobans in need.
This event is dependent solely upon industry sponsorship.
- Eligibility: Canadian hog producers only
- Opening date for applications: September 15, 2008
- Closing date for applications: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2008
- Fee: $60 per hog entered (no refunds)
- Limit: Maximum of two (2) market hogs per hog producer or per Colony. See “Letter to Producers” for additional information
- Entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
