History
Hog
& Poultry Days began in the early 1970s in response to the needs
of pork producers. The goal of the show - known then as Hog
Days - was to help producers increase their knowledge and develop the
up-to-date production techniques.
The venue - which
featured the latest information on health, husbandry, feed and technology
- went a long way in helping to create a high quality product and spurred
the growth of Manitoba's pork industry.
In the late 1980s,
poultry was included since much of the equipment, feed industry, and
health support industry that serviced pork production was also involved
in poultry production.
Now Hog &
Poultry Days is held in Winnipeg every second year. On alternate
years, Hog Days - its sister show - is held in Brandon.
